Job Details

The Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) group at Porter Airlines is tasked with providing actionable business insight that will boost financial performance. The Senior Financial Analyst, Airport Operations (SFA) position will play a significant role in budget/forecasting activities as well as providing financial and operational analytical assistance to Porter’s airport operations, including passenger service, ramp operations, catering, and training. 


As a valued business partner, a high level of business acumen will be required as the SFA will report indirectly into the Airport Operations’ senior management on analysis and recommendations that will actively influence business decisions. The SFA will also work closely with Airport operations as an active contributor on strategy, operational tactics, expense management, CAPEX and budgeting/forecasting initiatives.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Working directly with Airport Operations’ management and executives, jointly developing forecasting, reporting, analysis, and providing insight into a wide range of business and financial decisions

  • Builds planning and analysis models to improve performance and efficiency, and to support business cases for the necessary investments to reach and sustain operational performance targets.

  • Provides financial modeling and recommendations to support the Airport Operations in making financially sound business decisions.

  • Assist in developing and improving scheduling practices of hourly employees for all departments within Airport Operations.  Working with department and station managers, develop departmental schedules and vacation planning to ensure an efficient use of company resources.

  • Works with the Director, Airport Operations to ensure third party suppliers achieve financial, operational and passenger service targets and seeks ways to contain and/or reduce these costs over time while maintaining those targets.

  • Works with station leaders, Porter GSE Maintenance and third party suppliers to develop near-term and long-term fleet plans, including operational and CAPEX budgets.

  • Provide analytical support for various growth initiatives including but not limited to catering and new stations

  • Create, maintain and monitors financial and operational controls within the operations group

  • Work with the financial reporting team on Month-end close activities for all of Airport Operations including but not limited to journal entries and accruals

  • Initiates analysis of monthly variances, and works directly with operational management, executives, and the financial reporting team to identify and resolve variances to plan

  • Develops weekly, monthly reporting and enhances the existing KPI reporting and analytical tools to increase efficiency and uncover more insight into business operations.

  • Become a subject matter expert on Prophix FP&A planning software for Airport Operations

  • Focus on continuous improvements of current processes and procedures and provide  recommendations for enhancements

  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • An undergraduate degree, a professional designation (CPA, CFA) or MBA an asset

  • 2-5 years of work experience in FP&A supporting business units or similar experience

  • Must be an excellent communicator

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills

  • Deadline driven - Workloads tend to peak during the key deadlines of the annual budget, and forecast processes

  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams

  • Must be able to rapidly adapt to change and deliver under minimal supervision

  • Experience in operational and cost savings analysis, and the ability to make sound financial decisions, which may impact the company

  • Proven ability to leverage internal relationships and drive change

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and some knowledge of Microsoft Access preferred

  • Database (SQL), VBA, or other Programming knowledge is desirable

  • Knowledge of MS Dynamics (Great Plains), Prophix and Tableau an asset

  • Aviation industry experience is an asset

  • Flexible and a good negotiator

  • A strong background in data management is an asset as there will be a significant effort to integrate big data analytics into the financial modeling

  • Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccination
