Intermediate Data Analyst

FUNCTION:
Are you comfortable looking at billions of records and summarizing the details to a business user? Have you built business intelligence applications and data integration processes to make information available? This position takes a keen interest in understanding the value of data in an organization and using it to provide better insights and strategy. You will play a key role in developing and enhancing the use of data across the company to better serve our customers and operations while enjoying the perks of working at one of the best airlines in Canada.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work directly with business groups to identify, define and document requirements for projects
• Provide guidance and assistance to business groups on their data analysis projects
• Maintain and support multiple projects, working with the Technology teams, project managers, business groups
• Document data definitions, metrics, data structures, and business processes for corporate projects and initiatives
• Mentor business users on using the data warehouse effectively
• Develop and maintain reports and dashboards for business groups
• Develop and maintain ETL and data integration processes between systems and the data warehouse
• Responsible for analyzing and improving data quality and data integrity in our data warehouse
• Participate in defining the data warehouse and data governance principles
• Provide support for reports and data processes after hours and weekends, when needed
• Any other duties as requested by the Director, Data Warehousing
• Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy

• Post-secondary degree: Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or similar degree preferred
• Minimum of 3 years experience developing business intelligence/data warehousing solutions
• Strong SQL experience with various database systems including SQL Server, MySQL, or Redshift
• Experience in creating reports, scorecards, dashboards and explaining the information in them
• to communicate clearly with business users, project teams and project managers
• Propose solutions to problems while considering timeliness and practicality
• Some programming experience using languages such as Python, R, Java, Perl or equivalent
• Understands big data concepts, techniques and the value it can bring to an organization
• Experience documenting and maintaining data dictionaries, metric and KPI definitions
• Working knowledge of ETL processes, data integration, and associated technologies
• Familiarity with SDLC, requirements gathering and documentation
• Experience with website analysis tools such as  Google Analytics, WebTrends, Adobe Omniture is an asset
• Experience in the travel or airline industry is an asset

• 2 to 3 years of experience in Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services or Tableau
• 3 + years of strong SQL experience using SQL Server, PostGRES, MySQL  or Redshift
• 1 year of experience working with data integration (ETL) tools such as Microsoft SSIS, Pentaho, or Matillion
• Experience using Microsoft Office or Google Suite
• Excellent knowledge of database design and data warehouse modeling techniques
• Experience with Amazon Web Services or other secure cloud providers
