Job Details

FUNCTION:  Reporting to the Director, Safety, this position supports safety at Porter Airlines through the management of its Safety Management System. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain the SMS reporting system and related documentation (evidence of investigation, root cause analysis and audits of reported incidents/accidents and hazards)Conduct a preliminary risk assessment of reported issues and assign responsibility for investigation and audit to the appropriate individualGuide all investigators and auditors through the conduct of their work
  • Evaluate the results of investigations and implementation of corrective action in the context of organizational risk management strategies; evaluate the effectiveness of treatment of SMS-reported issues  
  • Monitor and analyze trends in safety performance
  • Report to the Director, Safety all unresolved safety-related matters
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements related to aviation safety management
  • Conduct investigation of safety-related incidents/accidents and hazards as required
  • Conduct audits of the effectiveness of corrective action taken to remedy safety incidents/accidents and hazards as required
  • Contribute to management review of the safety management system
  • Manage SMS and associated training of employees and contract staff
  • Develop and disseminate safety-related documentation including monthly status reports, meeting minutes, SMS newsletter, safety articles
  • Administer company safety surveys and analysis of survey results
  • Maintain the confidentiality of organizational safety reporting systems
  • Any other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS: 
  • Excellent working knowledge of Transport Canada requirements for a safety management system
  • Prior working experience of commercial flight operations and/or aircraft maintenance operations
  • Knowledge of investigation, root cause and trend analysis methods
  • Experience in the development, implementation and promotion of quality management, quality assurance and risk management programs
  • Lead auditor experience in conjunction with safety, quality and/or environmental management systems
  • Excellent time management, written and verbal communication skills; keen attention to detail
  • A working background in project management
  • University degree and/or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or related work experience
  • Ability to secure and maintain restricted airport security clearance
  • Must maintain a valid passport and be able to travel when required
