Job Details

The Manager, Business Development role is the corporate sales leader responsible for leading that team that will grow Porter’s corporate customer base as Porter expands its network across North America.  

The responsibilities of this role include building an effective business development team and strategy to obtain new corporate travel business. The role also includes researching, planning, and implementing new target market initiatives, researching prospective accounts in target markets, pursuing leads and moving them through the sales cycle, setting goals for the business development team and developing strategies to meet those goals. There will be a large focus on training of business development team members, contract negotiation, strategic planning, and data analysis.   Attending relevant conferences and industry events will also be required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Plans, develops and implements corporate sales customer retention and growth strategies for the broader Porter network, in order to grow and maximize Porter Airlines load factors and profit

  • Builds, leads, motivates, mentors, and challenges the Account Executive(s), Business Development to revenue growth initiatives by overseeing workflow, engaging them in best practice tools and methods, and maintaining constant communication

  • Assists Director, Corporate Sales with guiding the strategy and vision of qualifying new business that's right for Porter before closing the contract

  • Defines criteria for charitable support requests, in relation to business development opportunities, and identifies if there is new business potential for the greater Sales team, and of greater benefit to Porter in attending

  • Assists Director, Corporate Sales on working with Revenue Management to close the discount gaps on connecting markets to facilitate new business offerings

  • Maintain face-to-face relationships with new strategic and key account segments

  • Plan and implement sales force effectiveness tracking mechanisms by direct report to analyze employee revenue and new contract results to ensure all targets and objectives are being met

  • Ensure sales effectiveness reporting, Porter product strategies, administration policies and procedures are in compliance with strategic direction in cooperation with Director, Corporate Sales

  • Oversee corporate discounts and productivity incentives to ensure corporate customer efficiencies Participate in applicable industry events representing Porter

  • Actively participates in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Director, Corporate and Group Sales

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A minimum of 5-7 years of industry relevant procurement and/or strategic sales expertise

  • Proven people leadership

  • Goals, objectives and measurement oriented

  • Knowledge of airline business development, travel agency sales, account management and industry relations practices

  • Knowledge of client travel program optimization methodologies, measurement, training, change management, marketing channels to enhance Porter offerings, sales force effectiveness and tools

  • Working knowledge of all forms of payment used by agencies and corporate accounts

  • Fluency in French (Written and Spoken) beneficial but not required

  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills

  • Highly organized in prioritizing work and multi-tasking and demonstrates a strong sense of urgency

  • Ability to move effectively through the consultative selling process

  • Ability to deliver engaging presentations to Travel Managers, Procurement and Executive audiences

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Strong knowledge of corporate travel systems and reporting tools (OBT’s, GDS, Data Sources, Tableau, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to present ideas clearly and effectively and creatively problem solve

  • University degree with a focus in Business, Economics, Marketing, Finance, or Strategic Planning is required.
