POSITION: Mobile App Designer
REPORTS TO: Lead, UX Digital Design

FUNCTION: Reporting to the Lead, Digital UX Design, the Mobile App Designer is responsible for creating highly usable and intuitive mobile interfaces across multiple platforms such as iOS, Android, Windows, and mobile web. Any concept you create will be brand-consistent across all mobile experiences that Porter provides to our end users. We expect you to have an evolved understanding of how people use their devices, the flexibility to adapt to new technologies, and a robust toolkit. You will be required to work collaboratively and bring your ideas to the table in a well thought out and organized manner. Your attention to detail should impress your colleagues! DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design intuitive, usable and engaging interactions and compelling and accessible user interfaces for mobile.
  • Translate ideas and concepts into world class designs for IOS and Android applications by crafting journey maps, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mock-ups.
  • Create design documentation that clearly and effectively communicates the design and specifications to developers.
  • Participate in the entire design lifecycle, from initial explorations and user testing to final design deliverables and through continuous QA during development and maintenance to ensure the product is aligned with the design specifications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (UX Designers, UX Researchers, Developers, Business Analysts, Project Managers etc.) throughout the design process and development, including sprint planning and backlog refinement. 
  • Present designs and effectively articulate design solution rationale to internal and external stakeholders in a way that engages and excites your audience.
  • Stay abreast of UX/UI trends and look for creative ideas and inspiration in parallel analogous worlds.
  • Research and track advancements in mobile application design patterns.
  • Break any design problem down into viable actionable chunks and solve them with clarity and precision.
  • Stay in the loop and on top of the latest standards, changes, trends in the mobile design field.
  • Work with the app team to define and refine the components, patterns, and systems used across the platform.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s or higher degree in interaction design, computer science, human-computer interaction, cognitive science or related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Well-versed in one or more of the industry standard design and prototyping tools, such as Figma, Axure, or InVision. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Minimum 2 years professional experience as a Mobile App Designer for both Android and iOS.
  • An understanding or proficiency in HTML, CSS, and Javascript is a nice-to-have. 
  • Previous experience working on large scale mobile application design is a plus.
  • Familiarity with executing user-centered design while following lean UX process best practices for interaction design throughout the design and development process that is mobile focused.
  • Strong ability to recognize and predict use-cases and user interaction, including happy path, edge and corner cases, and incorporate them into designs.
  • Excellent understanding of user-experience design for mobile and the web, technology trends, demonstrable UI design skills, and ability to show relevant work.
  • Deep understanding of mobile app UX best practices as well familiarity with Apple’s Human Interface Design Guidelines, Android design and other mobile platform designs, including Google’s Material Design.
  • Thorough understanding of mobile platform and device requirements such as form factors, screen resolutions, pixel density and aspect ratios.
  • Online portfolio that demonstrates user-centered design solutions with strong visual and interaction design skills with a heavy focus on native mobile apps for both IOS and Android.
