FUNCTION: 

As a Senior Software Developer at Porter Airlines you will design, build, and maintain the next generation of software systems that help transport millions of passengers quickly and smoothly across our network.

Reporting to the Director, Software Development, this position calls for someone that is passionate about coding, and is interested in playing a key part in Porter software initiatives from conception to post production.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the architectural design, development and deployment of new software solutions for Airport Systems, Finance, Reservation, and Flight Operations Systems

  • Work with business analysts, project managers, QA and other developers to ensure products are delivered on time and with all required documentation and testing

  • Maintain and support multiple projects and deadlines, working with project managers to establish timelines and estimate effort

  • Monitor critical systems to ensure operations are performing efficiently and smoothly, including communicating with business users, identifying production issues and rolling out bug fixes as required

  • Lead architecture design discussions, recommend and research innovative new technologies that can be used to enhance the business

  • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of Porter’s business processes and suggesting areas of improvement

  • Mentor and advise junior team members on software development best practices

  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety policy.

  • Any other duties as requested by the Team Lead, Application Development or Director, Software Development

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years experience developing .NET software solutions

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering (or equivalent) preferred

  • Ability to communicate clearly with business users and project management, ability to clearly articulate ideas and thoughts verbally and in written form

  • Excellent organizational skills & attention to detail

  • Ability to construct user guides and documentation

  • Microsoft certifications are an asset

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Full stack experience, along with experience in all stages of the software development life cycle including architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance

  • Expertise developing a variety of software applications, primarily using Microsoft technologies

  • Advanced .NET software development skills (C#) using Visual Studio 2017+

  • Expert-level experience developing ASP.NET MVC or ASP.NET Core applications

  • Advanced knowledge of .NET Framework 4.5+ and .NET Core

  • Excellent knowledge of database design in SQL Server 2017+, SQL/T-SQL , database indexing, views and stored procedures

  • Strong knowledge of Entity Framework (or other similar ORM frameworks)

  • Experienced in designing, developing and consuming SOAP and REST web services

  • Experience with event bus architecture and message broker services such as AmazonMQ and RabbitMQ

  • Solid knowledge of advanced programming concepts and design patterns including multi-threading, asynchronous programming, dependency injection

  • Proficient in creating UML diagrams and design documentation

  • Experience designing, developing and maintaining mission-critical systems

  • Good front-end web development and Javascript skills

  • Some experience with front-end libraries and frameworks such as jQuery, Angular, React, would be an asset

  • Familiar with agile development methodology and scrum framework

  • Experience developing and deploying applications in a cloud environment such as Amazon AWS would be an asset

  • Understanding of containerized applications would be an asset

  • Experience developing software to interface with wired and wireless peripherals would be an asset

  • Experience in the travel or airline industry would be an asset
