Intermediate Data Developer

FUNCTION:

The Data Developer role is a key contributor and solution provider on our data challenges, expanding the data warehouse and providing data integration across porter’s systems.  The role uses many existing products and services offered by AWS and Google.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Work with business groups to define and document requirements for data projects
• Develop and maintain ETL and data integration processes for internal and external systems 
• Expand and enhance the subject areas in the data warehouse
• Responsible for improving data quality and integrity in the data warehouse
• Provide guidance and assistance to business and technology groups on their data needs
• Maintain and support multiple projects, working wi]th the technology teams, project managers, and business groups
• Document the structure, business processes and requirements for the  data processes, databases and data warehouse
• Provide occasional support for processes after hours and weekends
• Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System(SMS) including, reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations;understand, comply with and promote Company Safety Policy 
• Any other duties as requested by the Director of the Data team

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or similar degree preferred
• Excellent knowledge of database design, data warehouse methodologies and data integration techniques 
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, to communicate with business stakeholders, project teams and project managers
• Experience with various SDLC methodologies and requirements gathering
• Exceptional analytical and problem solving skills
• 3 to 5 years of experience developing data integration and/or ETL solutions
• 3 to 5 years of experience designing and developing big data or data warehouse solutions
• Strong SQL experience with various database systems
• Experience with AWS products and services including S3, RDS, Lambda, Redshift, Kinesis, Athena, EMR
• Experience using open source programming languages such as Python, Scala, or R
• Experience with Google products and services including Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Analytics
• Excellent SQL experience with cloud based database systems such as AWS Redshift and Google BigQuery

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

• 3 + years of experience developing data integration using ETL tools such as Matillion, Microsoft SSIS, or Pentaho
• 3 + years of experience using open source programming languages such as Python, Scala, or R 
• 3 + years of experience using SQL Server, PostgreSQL or similar databases
• 2 + years of experience analyzing data using Google Sheets, Excel, Tableau
• 2 + years of experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) products and services, especially Redshift, Kinesis, Lambda, EMR, or RDS
