Job Description

FUNCTION: 

 

This role has a total perspective of communications at Porter, with a focus on developing and executing internal communications practices to enhance information sharing and inspire team member engagement. This includes the design, implementation and facilitation of all Porter internal communications strategies and the development of key engagement initiatives. 

 

This role also supports the execution of time-sensitive external communications priorities, including executive support, media relations, crisis/issues management, speech writing, special events and other organizational projects.

 

This role functions within the Marketing & Communications, People & Culture and Executive teams. It translates strategic People & Culture initiatives and corporate strategies into applicable formats for various audiences, and supports programs for client groups to enhance Porter’s internal brand and support its values.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS (30%) – With the support of the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, People & Culture leaders and the Executive team, develop and implement internal communications strategies and plans. Manage all Porter internal communications, including announcements, speeches, videos, intranet, emails and presentations. Oversee all editorial content for team member digital technology and intranet sites, and other corporate communications. Manage corporate meetings and town halls, including setting agendas, developing content, logistics, etc. Support departments in the development of internal communications strategies and ensure consistency across the company.

 

  • KEY ENGAGEMENT INITIATIVES DEVELOPMENT (30%) – Champion the design and development of key culture initiatives to advance business strategies and team member engagement. Introduce initiatives that lead to constructive discussion across the company, encouraging innovation, diversity and inclusion. In addition, build team member advocacy around Porter’s vision and values. Provide strategic direction for team member events and Porter’s team member recognition program. 

 

  • EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS (20%) – Support external communications:

  • Media relations functions, including writing news releases and key messages 

  • Facilitate media inquiries

  • Contribute to digital communications efforts, including social media

  • Participate in Porter’s emergency response communications team, including managing external communications, news conferences and executives 

  • Act as primary contact for all communications matters when the Director, Communications & Public Affairs, is absent

 

 

  • EXECUTIVE COMMUNICATIONS (20%) – Provide counsel to the Executive team in communicating with team members using a consistent voice and through a variety of communication methods.

  • Support development of key messages for all internal communications. This includes well-planned, clear and consistent messages from senior leaders regarding key initiatives, business results, change management, etc.

  • Contribute to Executive speechwriting and presentation development

  • Create and help manage communications content and logistics through multiple channels for internal and external communications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-Secondary Degree – Journalism, Communications and/or PR 

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Communications/PR

  • Ability to bring forward strategic insights and translate them into practical programs

  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills – ability to influence and inspire trust at all levels of the organization

  • Strong writing and editing skills; ability to adapt style to a variety of audiences

  • Ability to work directly with senior executives on sensitive and urgent projects

  • Proven event management and organizational skills, liaising with suppliers, and ability to multitask and prioritize

  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, diverse environment

  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset

  • Must pass security screening and qualify for secure airport access
